Our Mission
The mission of the Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene as a holiness is to: exalt Jesus, evangelize the lost, equip for service, edify the truth, and encourage in fellowship and prayer.
The Church of the Nazarene traces it's roots to the Methodist Church of 18th century America. The first Church of the Nazarene opened in Los Angeles in 1895. The denomination officially formed at Pilot Point Texas in 1908 with the charge to proclaim biblical holiness to all people everywhere. We are an international denomination with preaching, teaching, medical, and service ministries in over 116 world areas.
Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene emerged from small prayer groups in the homes of early supporters. The faithful then met in the old Quaker meeting house located in Fawn Grove. Eventually, the current property was purchased and the congregation organized in 1966. Our facilities have been constructed in three phases. The sanctuary, where we now worship was dedicated in 1989. In September 1996, we celebrated our 30th Anniversary!
So you may know:
The Wesleyan revival that saved 18th-century England from revolution reaffirmed the testimony and experience of the Early church that God is able to forgive man's sins and cleanse his heart from all unrighteousness. A revival of this preaching and doctrine in the united States toward the close of the 19th century led to the formation of independent congregations that banded together in October 1908 as the Church of the Nazarene. So universal was this movement that even then all parts of the United States were represented in 228 congregations comprising 10,414 members.
Keeping Pace in a Changing World
A warmhearted church and a victorious Christian life, founded on faith in the Word of God, have attracted many to the fellowship of the church during the past eight decades. Heartfelt religion resulted in fervent lay witnessing and a missionary concern. The Church of the Nazarene has grown until now there are over 1,170,000 members in 11,482 congregations. The church ministers in more than 112 areas around the world. Over 1,338,000 are enrolled in Nazarene Sunday Schools.
In today's rapidly changing world, God's grace and the need of the human heart are changeless. The Church of the Nazarene offers to people today the same warmhearted church and victorious Christian faith that have made it attractive throughout its history. The uncertainties of this technological age, the failure of a high standard of living to satisfy basic human needs, and the inability of education or science alone to solve the problem of sin and morality affirm the relevance of the church's message and the urgency of its God-given mission.
The Church of the Nazarene in Your Neighborhood
The Church of the Nazarene is located in over 5,700 neighborhoods across North America. The buildings reflect almost every architectural style and time period; some boast soaring colonial spires, while others are boldly contemporary, and still others are purely functional. Whatever may be on the outside of the building, there are common denominators inside every Nazarene congregation - most of which have to do with relationships. For instance . . .
A warm fellowship is one of the distinguishing characteristics of a Nazarene congregation.
Because of that you can usually expect:
A friendly sense of community and care for families, singles, newlyweds, senior citizens, young children, teens, and all ages between.
A concern for families expressed in social activities, service opportunities, learning situations, and worship experiences.
Participation in ministry through Sunday School, men's and women's organizations, youth and children's programs.
Spiritual nurture is the church's most basic responsibility. In a Church of the Nazarene this nurture will be expressed by
Pastoral counseling and prayer meetings.
Special times of evangelism and outreach.
Opportunities for times of public commitment and prayer at the alter.
Participation in the sacraments, both baptism and Communion.
Graded study programs like Sunday School and Bible study groups.
Retreats for teens through adults.
Providing opportunity for ministry.
Reports in 1996 indicate that over 650 Nazarene missionaries and volunteers and more than 5,100 national pastors and workers in over 112 world areas on six continents are proclaiming the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ through a preaching, teaching, and healing ministry. In these areas there are over 6,100 organized churches plus hundreds of missions in 245 districts. More than 8,900 students are trained in 35 Bible colleges and 21 extension centers. Nazarenes gave in excess of $42 million, including General Budget and Mission Specials, for this widespread missionary outreach.
The Church of the Nazarene, from its inception, has been committed to higher education. Throughout the world the church currently sponsors 36 undergraduate and graduate institutions, including 9 liberal arts colleges, 3 graduate seminaries, 19 Bible colleges, 3 nursing schools, a teacher training college, and a junior college. Eighteen other bible schools, numerous Theological Education by Extension centers, and elementary and secondary schools also offer instruction at various levels. In addition, Nazarene Student Fellowships are being established on may secular college and university campuses.
The various departments of the church create literature for Sunday School training, training of laity and ministers, Bible study, personal spiritual growth, and social concerns. for over 85 years the Nazarene Publishing House has increasingly carried out its mission of providing "God's Word for Today's World" through Beacon Hill books, Word Action Sunday School curriculum, and Lillenas music.
Nazarene Communication Network
Since 1944 the church has recognized its responsibility to use radio as a means of reaching the millions who do not benefit from easy access to the gospel. Today the use of radio, video, television and satellite represents a very important evangelistic tool. Radio is used extensively in areas where the church has an established ministry. It is also used to prepare areas for future entry and to help strengthen a new work. thee are over 50 different broadcasts, in 42 languages and dialects, produced weekly, which give global coverage to the radio ministry of the church. Television is being used successfully in several English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Russian world areas. the newly launched Nazarene Communications Network provides satellite and internet broadcasting worldwide. These forms of communication give visibility, awareness, and the message of hope in Jesus Christ through the many ministries of the Church of the Nazarene.
